Description

Last week I went camping with my family. We had a beautiful campsite right on the shore of a small lake in the Rocky Mountains.

I was up early every morning, but the sky was so clear that the sunrise was a blinding white glare. This happened every day up until the last morning when a bit of haze and light cloud finally resulted in some nice warm colours.

I changed my mind several times on the crop so I have included an alternate version.

Edit: Brightness and contrast adjusted. Original is available as a download.

Very nice composition!
Sun is in the perfect place! :p

I only wish that the background tree/forest was slightly darkened.

Love this shot! IMO, this is one of your best (but you have so many nice shots). I agree with Patrick (aka, moserArist), but only after I read his comment (i.e., I didn't notice it right away on my own).
What type of lens (and filters) were you using?
FWIW, I prefer the crop that you posted above.

could use a bump in contrast IMO. I like the alternate crop better.

Thanks for the c&c.
I have tweaked brightness and contrast - the background hill is a little darker now.

Trevor - I used my EF 70 - 300 mm lens (focal length 240 mm for this). I also took some pics with my 18 - 55 mm kit lens but I liked the bigger sun in the closer view. I didn't use a filter.

This was taken from a canoe. Pretty Canadian eh?

Thanks very much for the lens details, Don. I figured with a sun that large, you had to be shooting around 200mm.

After 3 years, I'm still shooting with my kit lens (sigh). According to my wife, a new camera lens does come above heat and food. :p

Very pretty calm-ness.
I like the tighter crop more. :)!

A great image. I disagree with Patrick and like the background as is. Any darker and the foreground trees would not stand out in such contrast. Very well done!
