Description

On Tuesday I returned from a two week vacation in Mexico. The weather was warm and sunny so my family and I spent a lot of time at the beach (of course). This little girl was playing further down the beach and her silhouette, backlit by the glimmer of sunshine on the water caught my attention.

Cool capture I like the composition and setup as well.

The bottom could use a crop to balance out the composition more.

Looks like you tried to burn the highlights on the wave near the top right corner; makes it look like an incoming grey blob.

Image could fare better as a B/W.

Nice feeling of depth through the levels of waves.

A bit difficult light conditions imo.

You could explose different crops on this one.

I also enjoy the layered effect created by the water. The crashing wave above isn't helping. It's blurry and smudged looking and breaks the layering effect. Tough lighting conditions here. Would have been a lot nicer late day with mood lighting and some reds and oranges.

A difficult capture that works but that suffers a bit from the time of day it was shot. I too like the layered effect.

The layer effect is great, and with such harsh light conditions I think it's a nice work! I agree with MsM about the "exploding" wave!

Its the 'harsh light conditions' that make it special!

Thanks for your comments. I value your comments too much to claim that this is just a matter of taste. However...
I enjoyed the lighting when I was on the beach watching the kids playing, and I was (and still am) pleased with the result. The lighting conditions weren't bad - late afternoon sun with a bit of haze. I could have chosen a different perspective and avoided the glare but that was not my intent.

I like the dappled effect from the lighting. Two things I'd recommend. Crop from the top, just above the wave, which I happen to like. You could crop a tiny bit from the bottom, but this dappled light and color is good for the image. Secondly, pump up the saturation.

Thanks for the comments.
@twistoflime - I tried your cropping suggestions and liked it so I have changed the posted version to take just a little bit off of the top
@purplerose - I didn't burn any highlights - I'm not sure which wave you are referring to. (Maybe it's gone with the new crop?)

Good capture Don!....very good exposure for the sparkling water.
I may have cropped some at the top.
