A lone coyote on a misty morning. This was taken just a few moments before I took
Harmony . I was lucky enough to be able to watch the deer and the coyote, on opposite sides of me, at the same time.

I added a little bit of noise and a slight yellow tint to the B&W version of...

In March I drove from Calgary to Fernie to visit my sister and ski for the day http://www.skifernie.com . It's a 3 hour drive so I left early, hoping to be on the ski hill by 9:30 or 10:00. Since skiing was my first priority I passed some nice scenery without stopping to take...

My first Golden Eagle sighting!

I didn't get the whole eagle into this picture and the light on its face could be better. The focus isn't that great and the post processing required to bring out this amount of detail is a little too much. I have another very nice photo of this...

This was taken on March 30. We have 15 cm of fresh snow on the ground today (it's April 19!!) with snow in the forecast for the next three days and below freezing termperatures for the next week. The snow looks beautiful but....

I was out in one of my local parks early this morning but, for the most part, the light was very disappointing - grey and cloudy with too little light for wildlife shots.

Then the sun broke through the clouds and shone on a small group of deer for a few minutes. I concentrated on this one...

I woke yesterday morning to a couple of inches of fresh snow on the ground. I grabbed my camera and headed to a local bird sanctuary where I spotted this Richardson's Ground Squirrel (aka gopher) when it came out of a hole in the ground. By late afternoon the snow had all melted.

Coming home after a weekend of skiing. There's obviously not much snow on the prairies but there's lots in the mountains where it counts.

HDR - 3 exposures from one RAW file.

EDIT - The original has been replaced by a slightly darker version.

The is a female Orange-breasted Bunting that I saw in Mexico. These buntings are not found in Canada or the United States so it was a treat to see them. The females have some striking colours but the males are shockingly colourful. Unfortunately the males had a knack for staying just outside...

On Tuesday I returned from a two week vacation in Mexico. The weather was warm and sunny so my family and I spent a lot of time at the beach (of course). This little girl was playing further down the beach and her silhouette, backlit by the glimmer of sunshine on the water caught my attention.

This bird is a Bohemian Waxwing. In Calgary they are a winter bird that spends the summer north of us. This one is in a mountain ash tree - the mountain ash berries are one of their favourite food sources. (Sometimes the berries are fermented on the tree and the birds get drunk.)
